Family Photoshoot

Leeds, Bradford, Skipton, Harrogate, Ilkley

Family time is so special, capture it.

Family Photoshoot

Family photoshoots are one of my most favourite things to capture. I'm not just saying this but I genuinely believe every family needs a photoshoot at some point. Not only do they bring everyone closer together (literally - when I get you hugging each other), but it creates wonderful memories that you can't forget as they are documented on my camera (and given to you). Family portraits don't have to be awkward, it can simply mean going for a walk in your favourite location, getting your wellies on, grab the dog and just go outdoors (except you'll have me following you around!). I've lost count the amount of times someone has said to me 'oh that wasn't that bad actually' and 'I really enjoyed that' (as though they wouldn't!). I don't want you to remember a time you was awkwardly stood in front of a photographer. I want you to remember the time you had loads of fun with your family... If you're unsure then just give it a go, at least once.

I know lots of locations in and around Yorkshire for family photoshoots (as I'm sure you do too!), I know locations from reservoirs, woodland, parks, countryside, villages, ponds etc. suitable for kids, the elderly and the athletic! I work in a studio through the week capturing newborn babies and their families, and as much as I love indoor photoshoots in the studio, I do think you get much nicer natural photos outdoors, and its somewhere you can always go back to visit.

If you really don't want your shoot outdoors for whatever reason then its just as equally as lovely to have them in your own home. These are typically called 'lifestyle photoshoots'. I simply document you doing something you love with your family such as baking, reading or playing. It may seem cheesy, but when your 2 year old is a 22 year old, the photos and memories will be priceless.

I don't just take photos of your faces, I get all the little things too, like photos of the place you had your photos at, what you was wearing that day and what the duck did when your 4 year old threw a loaf of bread at it...

Family photoshoots take around an hour, but it completely depends on how much fun you're having, if we get carried away and start jumping off buildings then we may need an extra hour or so for a trip to A&E.

As we can be quite unlucky with the weather in Yorkshire if it so happens to be raining on the day of your shoot, we simply reschedule. I try to go above and beyond to make my clients happy, so pretty much whatever you say, goes. Within reason...

Couples photoshoot

As I also specialise in weddings couples photoshoots is a thing I absolutely love! Wedding days are fab but you're restricted by time. On a couples photoshoot it's just the two of you (and me) with no speeches to prep or first dances to practice for, so we have lots of time to try different things.

If you've just got engaged, or if you're about to pop the question then having a photographer there to capture the romance is pretty invaluable. It's one of those moments you will never get back, or hardly remember because of the nerves and excitement. I can't guarantee you will actually get any photos of it happening because I'd probably be a blubbering mess, but I'd try my very best (poet!).

I recommend you choose a location for your engagement/ couples photoshoot. It doesn't have to be anywhere fancy, just somewhere that means a lot to you. However if you're really struggling read my blog on the best places in Yorkshire to have an engagement photoshoot.

Couples shoots usually take around an hour, however there isn't a time restriction, it just completely depends on how it's going, I'll usually try and get a couple of fun, natural and intimate photos. If you're thinking 'no way that would be so awkward' then please don't worry, I'm known for my relaxed approach. I'll always start the shoot with you guys just walking ahead of me to get you comfortable with someone stalking you... I'll then gradually ease you in to doing a couple of close ups. If you're really unsure if its for you then feel free to drop me an email or Facebook message and I'll send you some more info/ examples.

Engagement photoshoots are a great way of getting used to being in front of the camera before your wedding day. You can also use the images as engagement announcements, save the dates, invites or simply put them on display at your wedding.

Childrens/ toddlers photoshoot

Client: 'Ah no, you won't get her doing that, shes just really shy sometimes.'

Me: 'Challenge accepted'

I'm not just trying to blow my own trumpet, but I think because I'll mentally always be a child at heart I know how to get on their level, understand their behavior patterns and quite quickly pick up on what will make them crack a smile.

I start every shoot by playing a game. No camera, just me, the parents and the kid(s). Cameras are quite big and scary looking things, if my parents introduced me to a strange lady with a big black brick in her hand I'd also want to shy/ run away (I forgot to say when I was a child). I'm happy for the kids to have a little turn with my camera, look at themselves on the back and zoom in on Dad's nose. Once we're all comfortable that I'm not scary, we start the fun. There will be lots of singing, jumping, looking for monkeys in the trees, races and tiptoeing past the fairies. I'm not scared of mud, or looking like a fool. What is important to me is that we get the best possible photos of your darling children, which totally expresses their personalities.

I've worked with all kinds of wonderful children who may sometimes behave a little different and/or have been diagnosed with things such as ADHD, anxiety and autism. Again, please don't worry or think its something your child can't do. Whatever the weather I will try my best for you.

As well as all the fun snaps, I will also aim to get some photos of your children looking like the little angels that they are, showing off their toothless grins.

Just like you would in a studio you can bring along a change of outfit if you wish to.

PRofessional headshot

If you need to update your photo on linkedin, Social Media or if you have your own website that needs a photo of you in your about me page, then I highly recommend a professional photo... It will set you above the rest.

The photoshoot will take roughly an hour and will be in your favourite location or in the office. As usually for a professional photo there are only so many serious faces you can pull so I'll use a range of backdrops and set ups to give you a variety of snaps.

Best Friend photoshoot

If it's your birthday, hen do or you just simply love your best friend then I highly recommend a best friends photoshoot. It's a great idea for a special thing to do on a special occasion, and you get to remember it through the photos!

Unfortunately for me, in the 1990's having a professional photoshoot with your best friend wasn't really a thing. You was lucky if you got a decent snap of you and your sister at school but that is as far as it went.

One of my most favourite shoots was for a little girls birthday, she gathered a group of 10 of her friends, they dressed up as fairies and we took lots of photos - it was lovely and lots of fun!

Pets photoshoot

I'd take photos of pets all day if I could. I love all creatures great and small. Horses, dogs, cats, rabbits, snakes whatever you have, please have a photoshoot with him/her!

We can do the shoot in the comfort of your own home, garden, or in your pets favourite place. The shoot will roughly take an hour and I will take snaps of the two of you together (or with the whole family), and some of your pet on its own. If you're feeling camera shy then the shoot can also just focus on your pet. I've owned and worked with lots of pets in the past, and as long as we have lots of light (so I can have a super quick shutter speed on my camera) there won't be any issues... I'll do my best to capture your dogs personality.

Bringing your pet along to your family photoshoot is also a great way of relaxing your kids in front of the camera. I don't mind a bit of slobber or mud either.
